BOTOX®
Aging
skin and wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It's not
just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, or damage
caused by free radicals. The 11's--those vertical lines that appear between
your brows--result from muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint,
or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to
furrow and fold. Because frown lines are created by facial movements,
they may develop even in younger adults. After years of frequent contraction,
those wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medication that is an excellent treatment option for soothing moderate to severe frown lines between your brows and reducing wrinkles in your forehead and around the eyes (crow's feet). BOTOX® is a highly purified, naturally occurring protein which has the ability to safely relax the muscles to which it is applied. It works by blocking the nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes the persistent lines to form. Injections are done in a way to not alter your natural expression and features. The untreated facial muscles still contract normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions, such as laughing, in untreated areas. Your healthcare professional will determine the exact placement of each injection to get the results that are right for you.
BOTOX® is administered by medical providers as a quick, simple, nonsurgical treatment with little to no downtime. Although office visit times may vary, the procedure generally takes about 15-20 minutes. After a treatment, you can go about your day as usual. Although it is a no downtime procedure, your healthcare professional may suggest some precautions you should take after your treatment. Visible results in the treated areas are usually seen within three to seven (3-7) days after injection and these results will generally last three to four (3-4) months.
